Tap. Patience.
Ciabatta.

Tap or slap the MacBook

Mannaggia feels the knock through the frame. Your Nonno or Nonna pops up on screen, wags a finger and tells you off out loud, with subtitles underneath.

Real app subtitle: Piano, disgraziato! Ho una certa età! with the English line underneath

The moka keeps score

Patience is a moka pot that starts at 100. Every tap costs 15 and turns up the flame. Leave the poor Mac alone and it refills by itself, empty to full in about ten minutes.

At zero, la ciabatta

The moka boils over and a full-screen slipper comes flying at you. PAF. Then the patience comes back to 35 and everyone calms down. For now.

Real app subtitle: Adesso basta! Arriva la ciabatta! That's it! Here comes the slipper!

And the lid. Open or close it and the hinge creaks like an old door, which costs a little patience too. Close it and they say goodbye.

II.Il piatto forteThe signature move

Ours flies across the whole screen, spins, grows toward you and lands with a PAF. Clicks pass straight through it, so it never gets in the way of your work. You can switch the flying slipper off in Settings, and with Reduce Motion on, a still card appears instead.

IX.AmmazzacaffèQuestions

Ma che domande?

Does it really throw a slipper at me?

On screen, yes. When the moka boils over, a full-screen slipper flies at you and lands with a PAF. Clicks pass through it and your Mac is fine. Your pride, less so. You can switch it off, and with Reduce Motion on, a still card appears instead.

Does it work on my iMac or Mac mini?

Taps and the lid need a MacBook with Apple Silicon. On desktop Macs taps are unavailable, but jokes, occasion lines, clips and Record your Nonno all work.

Do all the relatives sound the same?

No. Each regional relative speaks standard Italian with the accent of home, so a Roman nonna sounds Roman and a Sicilian zia sounds Sicilian. Nonna Connie in Melbourne, Zio Sal in Brooklyn and Nonno Vince in Toronto mix in English.

I don't speak Italian. Will I understand?

Yes. The interface can be in English, and English subtitles are available for every line.

Is there swearing?

Only if you want it. Pick Clean, Mild or Spicy.

What happens to my grandparent's recording?

It stays on your Mac, together with their spoken consent, their name and the date. Nothing is uploaded. The voice model is downloaded once, then everything runs locally, and you can delete the voice and the consent at any time.

Do I need an account?

No. The app needs no account, so you open it from the menu bar and go. The launch waitlist is optional.

How much does it cost?

One copy is $19.99 (US dollars). Buying for the family? Two or more copies are $14.99 each, and the extra copies arrive as gift codes to send to your relatives. It is not on sale yet, so join the waitlist and you'll hear when it is.
